PCE Club - Report on the 55th Event - Meeting emotional needs of you and your child
The PCE club has successfully held its 55th monthly event collaborated with CAMHOP-NJ and Huaxia Edison Chinese School on March 9th. With great honor, we invited Dr. Sherry Liu as our speaker who presented the topic of meeting emotional need of you and your family members.
Speaking of health, there are two kinds of them: physical health and mental health. Both are equally essential throughout ones life time. Data revealed that mental illness, including suicide, ranks second in the burden of disease in established market economies, such as the United States ... Dr. Liu explained that mental illness is like other physical illness, it is influenced by many factors including inner body and environment. As parents we should identify the stress, understand the environment, determine the need and seek professional resource for help in case of illness.
It is estimated that nearly two-thirds of all people with diagnosable mental disorders do not seek treatment. As an experienced psychiatrist, Dr. Liu. explained the definition and symptoms of mental illness, including depression, bipolar disorder, for both adults and teens. She presented eight stages of psychosocial developments by Erik Erikson, which is a great tool for improving your self-understanding.
Dr. Lius presentation raised great awareness of the importance of mental health among the community. It is our hopes that this will help worried parents better understand the various ways that mental illness can effect children; what it looks like and how it can be treated.
We would like to extend our special thanks to PTO chairman of Huaxia Edison Chinese School. With his support, the PCE club is able to hold this event in Chinese school, which may reach out to more interested parents.
In PCE Club s next monthly event, Raising Bilingual Child, will be held on Saturday, April 12th.
Time: 7 pm - 9:30pm, April 12nd, Sat.
Address: Asian Culture Center, 1876 Rt.27 Edison, NJ 08817
